Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the predecessor of Dynamics 365 Business Central, will stop new sales from April 1st, 2019. It means that if you have not bought the license until this day, you will not be eligible for an implementation or an upgrade to that system. So what should you do if you are an end-customer running an older version of Navision / Dynamics NAV looking to upgrade or a customer looking to implement a new version of Dynamics NAV? Well the only way to go then – implement or upgrade to Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Dynamics 365 Business Central is much more than Dynamics NAV was – it has a fresh new interface, it has more integration capabilities and it’s running seamlessly from Microsoft Azure, provisioned by Microsoft. You should not worry if you are not capable of buying Dynamics NAV anymore – there’s a much more advanced product on the basis of Dynamics NAV out there. Read more here about the Dynamics 365 Business Central capabilities and the differences between Dynamics NAV and D365 Business Central.

So what are your purchasing options if you were looking to start fresh with Dynamics NAV / Business Central?

  • Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises via DPL
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central cloud via Cloud Solution Provider program (CSP)

What’s the difference? The on-premise option is a more expensive one but also more flexible option with less capabilities available to cloud users only through Intelligent Edge. If you are not looking to buy your servers separately, which would add up to an extra cost and extra labor hours, we highly recommend exploring the proposition we have through the CSP program.

If you’re an existing Dynamics NAV 2018 customer – you may continue using your solution, it’s still supported and you can buy additional Dynamics NAV 2018 users as needed.

What Are Your Options if You Are Looking to Upgrade from Dynamics NAV 2009 – 2018?

If you have a Dynamics NAV 2009 – 2018 license and you were current on your Enhancement plan (known as BREP), you will be able to upgrade/transition straight to Dynamics 365 Business Central. However, your concurrent user license type will not remain the same – you will be automatically changed to named user type. Moving from concurrent to named users is addressed by a straight “two for one”. So for every Starter Pack you would get six full named users and for every concurrent full user you get two concurrent named users.
